WHY VIRTUAL PRODUCTION?

Virtual Production is a revolutionary filmmaking technique that utilises advanced LED and tracking technologies to blend physical and digital elements seamlessly in real-time.

This approach enhances the traditional filmmaking process by integrating computer-generated imagery (CGI) with live-action footage, providing creatives with greater on-set control and efficiency.

VP has revolutionised driving scenes in advertising and TV due to being able to shoot at any time of day, in condition, while having the flexibility of studio creature comforts like client monitoring, studio power and talent luxuries like green rooms, without expensive unit bases.

Things that may have been physically or logistically impossible before can be made a reality by shooting them in a virtual production volume.

  • With our high resolution 6K and 8K cinema cameras, we can capture footage for multiple formats, simultaneously. This is perfect for multiformat shoots when 4×5, 16×9, 9×16 are all core deliverables.

  • For the first time, you can capture your greenscreen and virtual scene at the same time with phantom tracking. This provides all the benefits of Virtual production without the complexity in post production.

  • Shoot your Summer and Winter campaigns in the same day with our digital environments and virtual plates, all in-house.

  • With our in-house digital 3D team, you can create bespoke background environments for your brand.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Like most productions, a VP workflow can scale in price, but does have a few sunk costs like the stage rental, background assets (what appears on the screen) and foreground/ mid ground assets (what will interact with your subjects). - Getting these elements correct, will save you a lot of time in post production.

We have a team of 3D artists and camera technicians that can advise rough ballpark pricing early on in the process to keep the costs aligned with your creative and business objectives. - Sometimes VP isn’t right for a project for many reasons, and we are happy to advise other ways that productions can be done.

  • Unreal is a state of the art game engine used to create 3D environments which can then be translated onto the virtual production volume. This is a great solution when you would like the camera to move within the space and create parallax to your subject.

The technology does have some specific draw-backs and isn’t yet ‘photo real’, which is why it is crucial to reach out to the virtual production team early to understand where the limitations to the creative can be.

  • It is definitely a question people ask a lot. Green screen is great and the tried and tested method for a lot of film workflows over the past 100 years. The main drawbacks are; the talent don’t know what they are interacting with, reflections in mirrors, glass or shiny surfaces can be complicated and the VFX process can be long to get the final look.

Virtual production gets away from a lot of these complexities by filming everything ‘in camera’ and in a real digital space. This allows a traditionally lengthy post production process to be heavily reduced, saving both time and money in fast turnaround projects.
